Abstract: This study aims to enhance the value of the Ivorian pharmacopoeia by evaluating the pharmacological effects of a hydro-alcoholic extract of leaves of Combretum micranthum on the blood sugar level in Wistar rats. Pharmacological tests on blood glucose levels of normoglycemic and temporarily glycemic rats were carried out on a series of groups of rats, 5 and 4 groups of 6 rats respectively. All control groups of the different tests received 2 ml of distilled water. For normoglycaemic rats, test groups received doses of extract ranging from 100 to 350 mg/kg bw. Rats in the temporary hyperglycemic test groups, pre-treated and post-treated, received doses of 10-2g/kg bw and 100 mg/kg bw of glibenclamide and extract respectively. The results showed that this extract has hypoglycaemic and anti-hyperglycaemic properties at a dose of 100 mg/kg bw. These results are favourable to the use of this plant in the treatment of diabetes.
